Mark your calendars – you won’t want to miss this one. The 3rd Annual Singularity Summit will be taking place this October 25th at the Montgomery Theater in San Jose, CA. Hosted by the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the symposium brings together some of the world’s greatest visionaries to explore the future of human and machine cognition.
Last year’s speakers included Rodney Brooks of the iRobot Corp, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, and Jamais Cascio, co-founder of Worldchanging, to name a few. We can’t wait to see who shows up this year!
If you’re not familiar with the the term, the ‘Singularity’ refers to “the technological creation of smarter-than-human intelligence”, according to the SIAI website. Whether this event will unfold through human brain enhancement, or actually building an artificially intelligent machine, is obviously still to be determined. But the point is, greater intelligence brings about even greater intelligence, and we’re on the verge of a turning point in human history.
We’ll not even try to get into the implications of an intelligence explosion in this little post – besides, that’s what the Singularity Summit is for! If your interest has been piqued, and you want to know more about the Singularity and accelerating intelligence, check out the wealth of material at the SIAI website and at Ray Kurzweil’s website.
Thanks to Tyler Emerson, Executive Director of the Singularity Institute, for letting us know about the upcoming conference.
